Polonnaruwa

Polonnaruwa is the known second most ancient (1070 CE) capital of Sri Lanka. There are many archeological sites located around the town and entirety is declared as a world heritage. There you can explore eight most celebrated sites including Gal Viharaya (The temple of stone) where famous stone buddha statues are abode. Some other ancient stone works you may see are Nisshanka Latha Mandapaya (stage of stone creepers), Watadage (roof structure of stupa) and Rankoth Vehera (Temple of Gold Pinnacled stupa).
